Hi,

I read recently in an Australian newspaper about a Scandinavian design
award 'earth fridge' that had been an award winning response to a
challenge to design a fridge/coolbox that did not use any electricity.

It was a very cool looking thing on wheels.

There are, of course, refrigerators that burn gas, gasoline or
kerosene and have no moving parts, a principle that was designed by
two Swedes in the 1920s, Baltzar von Platen and Carl Munter:

This might meet the description "earth fridge" but doesn't meet your
"...on wheels":

There is also a solar powered fridge. It uses electricity, but none from the net.

If you could name the Aussie paper, it might be possible to find the
article on its website.

Let us know.

I thought it was the Sydney Morning Herald Good Living Section on
Design, but I am having no luck searching that.

It was based on the old earth cool box ideas, but uses no power source
at all, it does not freeze, just keep cool. It was definitely a
winning design, by - I think - some Scandinavian design students to a
briet to design an a contemporary version for the modern home. It was
very funky looking, and it was on wheels, so it could be moved around
the kitchen.

Water evaporation. Just fill with water. The principle is used in Asia.
