Hi there!
There doesn't appear to be an online one-stop shopping spot for ATV
industry data, however, I was able to find some press releases that
shed some light on 2001 sales:
This February 2002 American Honda press release states:
"American Honda's ATV sales continued to rise in 2001 ending the year
at 238,557, a 13% increase over last year. This strong performance
strengthened Honda's number one market share position to 32.7%."
From this we can calculate 238,557/32.7% = 729,532 total ATV sales
(presumably) in the U.S. (from American Honda)
This is up from a total of 647,705 units in 2000

It is a difficult to extract sales data from Honda's annual report
because it lumps ATVs in with motorcycles. Nonetheless, they reported
North American sales at just over $2B for 2001 for motorcycle, ATV,
and scooter sales. In 2001, they sold (approximately) equal numbers of
ATVs and motorcycles (200k). Motorcycles are an estimated 3x the price
of ATVs, we can estimate the sales from ATVs to be approximately $560M
(http://world.honda.com/investors/annualreport/2001/pdf/5.pdf)
Yamaha reports 187,000 units sold in the US in 2001, accounting for
approximately $91M in sales.

We can also estimate the total sales (in dollars) of the industry:
Honda: $560M
Polaris: $840M
Yamaha: $ 91M
Total: ~$ 1.5B sales for 2001
Other references:
Polaris' 2001 Annual Report
(http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_files/NYS/PII/reports/pii_020326.pdf)
- You'll notice that ATVs make up 56% of their sales, or $840M.
This same data is also available from the SEC's Edgar Database
(http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/931015/000095013702001495/c68167ex13.txt)
Hope this helps.
