I want to start my own business, but in this crazy sue-happy country I want to make sure I have the right insurance/coverage to protect myself. Does anyone know where I go to get this information please? I live in Southern California. Thank you. | |

Dear Palms, Running a business that involves your personal services, it won't help you to incorporate. In other words, a corporation won't protect you if you offer bad advice, or something you do causes someone to lose money or to be harmed. However, business liability insurance will protect you. Once of the best, and least expensive policies I have found, over the years, is from Safeco. Give them a call and ask them about their business policy. http://www.safeco.com/safeco/for_your_business/business_insurance/default.asp It not only provides a million dollar liability protection, it provides loss of income coverage, theft, fire and lots of other nice surprises. And it covers multiple locations if you open an office AND work from home. It also covers loss of data, destruction of records and...it's cheap. I am in California and I have coverage from them. So you should have no problem. Best wishes, Your TaxMama-ga |
