There was a product from Broderbund Software (years ago) called
"MemoMate", It was a freeform text entry platform. You simply typed
in any information and when it was time to find the info, you would
simply type text that would have appeared in the notes
that you are looking for. All matches would automatically be
highlighted [..AS YOU TYPED...] and then a quick tab would pass you
from one occurence to another(rather quickly you would find your notes
on your telephone conversation or notes on a paid bill or important
reminder or an address of someone or
something that you may have typed in. As you lengthened your search
string (character by character), the highlighted choices would quickly
reduce to just a couple or usually just the one you were looking for
or even all related notes!
In short, this software was a VERY convenient tool for storing all
kinds of notes, thoughts and jots and then retrieving them fast from
one large virtual running text log.
I am looking for software that would work with a PC and/or Pocket PC.
I am aware that todays text editors have the capability by using find
and next find, but it is not elegant nor anywhere near as convenient
or fast as was "MemoMate" ! Thanks
As far as I know, "MemoMate" no longer exists, but it was so good that
I am hoping that someone has picked up on the concept. |

I agree with canadianhelper, Google Desktop Search's built-in "Scratch
Pad" will do it for you if you save to a file, to get the auto
complete in the desktop seach box, there's a plug-in. When you get the
document itself open, Firefox's 'Find' and 'Find Next' on the task bar
(by tapping Return) works great.
If you want all the links to get this installed, I'll provide them for
you. Let me know.

Thanks! Google Desktop looks like the answer and it is much more
powerful than the software I had in mind. It appears to be a better
solution and for that I thank you! Jerry/aka jellygoose. [DO I NEED
TO DO ANYTHING ELSE IN ORDER TO SHOW THAT THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN
ANSWERED AND THAT THE RESEARCHER "YOU" GET CREDIT?]

I don't really understand what happened here? The best I can figure
out is that canadianhelper-ga is just fielding questions to help, but
is not somehow registered with the google people as one of the 500
researchers? Is this what is going on. And how about the other people
that have gotten involved in this thread? This was my first question
on Google Questions. What is the story???? Anyone care to qualify in
direct terms? THANKS

Hi jellygoose,
I'm a Google Answers Researcher, you can tell by my blue (linked)
name. Canadianhelper is a "Commenter," and thus is not able to collect
your fee.
I was actually preparing all the links for you, and was planning on
pointing you to the correct plug in for you, that gives you all the
functionality you need, although the Desktop Search tool "scratch pad"
function is great all by itself.
If I gather all the info for you, I will post in the answer box and
collect your fee. Note however, that you may close the question
because your question was esentially answered by a non-researcher. I
can ADD to the information he gave you however.
Also note this helpful link that explain the Google Answers Service in more detail:
Google Answers FAQ's
http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html
Scan these to read about the difference between commenters and Researchers.
Would you like me to continue gathering the information for you and
post in the answer box? If not, just close the question.
~~Cynthia
