I want to upgrade my home stereo system, which is in my living room. I will be using a Denon AVR-3805 receiver/amplifier, (120 watts per channel). Although the amplifier supports 7.1 surround sound, I will just be using it for two speakers, (but I may upgrade with more speakers sometime later). The only store I could find in Orange County, CA that has good speakers is Best Buy. The clerk showed me a pair of Martin Logan Mosaic speakers which cost $1000 each. Those speakers sounded superb to me, but I was hoping not to have to pay quite that much. My question is this. Are there any other speakers I should consider? And where should I go to compare speakers (website or local)? Do you have an alternate recommendation? If there are websites that compare speakers (unbiased), I would appreciate if you can suggest a few. I thought the floor models would give superior sound. One last thing, my wife does not want "big ugly" speakers in her living room -- whatever that means! :-) Thanks for your help. |

Often you can get the same audio components on line at places such as Ebay, for much less. For example, I purchased some Martin lighting effects for way below what my local dealers were charging. Many reputable retail establishments sell on Ebay as well as private parties. If the merchant is out of state you may not be required to pay state sales tax on your purchase! J & R Music World is a retail discount dealer you could also try http://www.jr.com/ I wish you the best of luck finding the right speakers. DJ Craig |

Bose Acoustimss systems kick serious sonic tush. Small, unobtrusive system and big sound that is highly accurate for a reasonable price. Surprisingly good at reproducing subtle passages while giving solid bass from the sub, it can really do it all. Buy 'em used (Craigslist!) and save more. Or, if you listen to rap and hip-hop, you can wire the stereo up to a pile of discarded soda cans. Or just listen to the cans... |
