I am looking for a dating service which pre-screens based upon
intellect. There is a service (THE RIGHT STUFF) which restricts
itself to the Ivy League schools.

But this service misses all the great PhD-types who attended a state
school. (Other ideas? Mensa? Professors' organization? Graduate
student group? et cetera)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings! The dating service Brain Appeal states on its main page:

"Finding intelligent life on the net has become a non-trivial task in
this modern age. brainAppeal is the best place to find other geeks, no
matter the flavor of geek, whether they be computer geeks, math geeks,
or art geeks. They are all here, waiting for you, in all their glory.

"brainAppeal is a community of intelligent people. We have developed a
system of human moderation that only accepts profiles of intelligent
people. Currently the rejection rate is 23%."

I did a search there for men between the ages of 25 and 50 and
received 248 returns. The same criteria for a woman returned 48
profiles. In the search, one may specify keywords. I did not - I
executed a simple search.

On Mensa's site, there is the following:

"Does Mensa Provide Social Interaction?

"Mensa meetings are anything but dull! Local groups meet at least
monthly. Often it's for dinner and drinks on a Friday night, or for
get-togethers featuring a speaker or a lively, freewheeling
discussion. All are with fellow members who share your intellectual
interests. Some groups have special get-togethers or activities
throughout the month. Others, especially the larger groups, have
events nearly every day. Of course, participation in local group
activities is always entirely at your option. There are also widely
attended annual conventions offering workshops, seminars, and parties,
plus, numerous regional gatherings are held each year, offering social
and intellectual excitement."

The annual conventions are not specifically a dating service but would
seem to offer possibilities for introductions as well as a way to
discover from other members if an elite service exists which is not
highly advertised.

I hope brainAppeal meets your needs. I could locate no other services
that mentioned any type of applicant rejection apart from brainAppeal.
Good luck in your quest for an intelligent partner.

Mensa is a great place to meet people. I have been married for
twenty-two years to a nice guy I met at a Mensa meeting. It seems to
be hereditary, since my mother met my stepfather through a classified
ad in the Mensa Bulletin!

Even if you don't find a life partner there, Mensa is well worth
joining for the enjoyable social occasions and interesting
publications. In addition to local events, the regional gatherings and
the big annual gathering are a blast. Nobody knows how to throw a
better party than Mensans.

Another service you might want to consider is Booklovers:

http://www.bookloversmm.com/

This is a "matchmaking" service for people interested in long-term
relationships (not necessarily marriage, but more than just casual
dating.) Booklovers is a service that has been around for a long time,
and has advertised in the Mensa Bulletin for decades. I've met three
couples who were "matched" by Booklovers, and all of them spoke highly
of the service. My acquaintances who used Booklovers did so by mail,
before the Web site was established. I would think the online service
would make things much easier and faster.
