I read an article between 5 and 10 years ago in a mainstream
scientific magazine* that compared the musical elements of the Beach
Boys and the Beatles. The analysis looked at chords, progressions, and
other objective characteristics--not popularity or other subjective
characteristics.

Can you please help me identify the article?

*Like Scientific American, American Scientist, etc. (Not Science,
Nature, or other scholarly pub.)
