Are you refering to a specific lineage (one that you study), or in
information regarding the connection between these family names.

My sister and I have been studying our ancestry for some years and
have completed our mothers side back to the 1500?s in France. On our
fathers side we have arrived back to late 1700?s but have hit a
stumbling block.

Recent Betson?s can be traced back to Essex in the UK during 1800?s.
However, prior to that it gets confusing, with families splitting off
to New York and to Australia. The Betson (Bet) name can be traced back
to Dundalk in Ireland, and then appears on the West Coast of Scotland,
then traversing across to Fife on the East Coast. At the time of this
traversing the name appears to have changed several times, i.e., Bet,
Beth, Betson, Bethune (Norman Family), Mac Beth, McBeth, Betson again.

What I am trying to find is a clean linkage, or evolution of the
family name Betson back to Mac Beth and further; or the means to
follow a linkage back. I have been using Scottish Parish registries of
births and baptism back to 1553, but a lot of background information
is missing from these lists as names pop up without background or
warning.
