Hi There!

1. As a certified old guy, I remember when you could subscribe to a
news clipping service. Each week, a manila envelope would arrive full
of clippings from all over the country. Are there any services which
will still send actual (ink-on-paper) clippings instead of electronic
e-mail clippings?

2. Whether electronic or paper, I have a separate question: Are
there any "ad clipping" services instead of "news clipping" services?

In my business, we offer certificates of deposit to savers. Our ads
are boring (completely my fault). I would like to subscribe to a
service which would provide an ongoing sampling of our competitors'
ads from around the USA. My goal is not to copy their ads, of course.
Similarly, my goal is not to deduce their rates; I can determine
that with a friendly telephone call.

Rather, I would like to review ads from other locales to give me some
new and improved ideas for our own advertising.

A 5-star answer would be a yes-or-no to question #1 and two companies
who provide the ad clipping service in #2.

Thanks a million!
ron

Hi Rainbow!

1. Thanks. Unfortunately, this info is not what I need.

2. The services you mentioned track competitor spending, but they do
not send the actual ads. I need the ads themselves. (Ironically, the
adfacts web site asks: "Are you tired of receiving an envelope full
of clippings? Adfacts doesn't do that to you...) I was yelling at my
computer: "Yes! Yes! That's exactly what I want. I want envelopes
full of clippings. Not your adfacts computerized summary of ad
spending. I'm not an advertising agency; I'm a small businessman..")

3. I could not see that any of the clippers mentioned send ads to
customers like me, either electronically or via paper mail.

Thanks!

Hi Ron,

Would Bowdens meet your needs?

They appear to send the clippings in print form by mail.

Bowdens
"Bowdens' research information can also be accessed through our print
directory. Clients can also receive their print and Internet articles
via regular mail. Broadcast coverage is delivered digitally or on
tape."

Hi bobbie7!

Bowdens is a great firm, but they only cover Canada. Because the
securities laws of the U.S. differ from those of Canada, the required
in-ad disclaimers are different---as are the compliance filings and
government guarantors (viz. FDIC and SPIC).

But thanks for thinking of me, bobbie7. I appreciate it!

Warmly,
ron
