I'm looking for a story-in-the-guise-of-an-article which appeared on
what I expect to have been a personal website about a year ago.
It was a short article, something in the style of some of Borges'
work. The narrator described his visit to a (recently-discovered?)
land, making special note of two things that I recall. Firstly, the
inhabitants of this land had recently greatly assisted our
understanding of mathematics, and secondly they had a language which
was nigh-impossible for any non-native to learn, because it kept
changing all the time. A word might be repeated several times and mean
a different thing each time.
The story also discussed a driving tour around the land (I think it
was an island), including a stop in a tavern or bar, which made quite
an impression on the narrator.
It's possible that this website may be a part of one of the
"constructed languages" communities online. |
