I was pulled over in Georgia in Dekalb County within the borders of Atlanta. I was traveling at around 30 mph in a parking lot of a shopping strip near my home and did not adhere to the parking lot's 4 stop signs. The police officier followed me home from the Shopping center and down the road about 2 miles in front of my apartment complex, then pulled me over. He asked me if I had anything to drink. It was 12AM and I had one beer at a restaurant with a friend. He accused me of drunk driving, but I was clearly not drunk. He did not ask me to step outside of the car or do a breathaliser test of any sort. But he was unclear about the drinking and dricing charge. Rather, he told me that I was being charged for reckless driving. I looked at the ticket, it said nothing about drinking and driving. It merely said "reckless driving- parking lot". He also told me that this would not go on my record as it was a county ordinance that I had violated. My questions are: 1) What is the charges exactly that I am facing and what is the worse case consequence? 2) What should my defense be and can I take an on-line defensive driving course to avoid this ticket altogether? 3) I have a NJ driver's license, will there be any points added to my ticket as this is supposedly a county ordinance violation? | |
