However, it should be remembered that there are plenty of common
Italian dialects--especially of so-called "American Italian" spoken in
the U.S.--where speakers drop final vowels. (This may have developed
from Sicilian immigrants, since it seems to me that this
vowel-dropping is more common among Sicilian-heritage speakers I've
met.) So there are plenty of American Italian speakers who would
pronounce "antipasti" more like "ahn-tee-pahst" rather than
"ahn-tee-pahs-tee."

This sort of pronounciation may make purists cringe, but it's not

Thank you for that American Italian thread. That was exactly what I
was looking for! I was trying to figure out whether anti-pahst was
correct or not. It is incorrect usage but a word that has stuck with
American Italians for generations so it's no wonder that most
Americans say anti-pahst.
