We need to find services like www.imdb.com that allow you to download
masses of data on any topic - for example:
All stamp names
All coin names
All horse names
All makes of car and models
What we want is the IMDB for every other type of
product/item/collectible - not just online searchable databases - but
ones that allow downloads of the data in full (IMDB charges but we
don't mind a small fee). |

tj-ga,
I've answered many "database download" questions here at Google
Answers, and provided people with lots of lists, like this one:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=597440
Bullet manufactuer and bullet name
There are many, many such sources of information and an unbelievable
variety of topics.
However, they aren't consolidated in one place, and no one can provide
you with ALL the lists that are out there.
If you can fine-tune your request a bit, it would help in getting an
answer, I think.
Perhaps you can start with asking for a database or two on a topic of
particular interest, to see how that goes.
Let me know your thoughts on this....

OK fair enough. If you fulfill 3 out of the 4 examples, I'll come up
with a few more and we'll pay out finding 10 of our choosing.

Thanks. But I'm still not sure exactly what you need.
For instance, here's a database of stamps:
http://www.philately.com/philately/asp/All_Stamps_Available_list.asp
Does that meet your "stamp" needs?
If not, what would?

Yes I would say that would answer it for stamps - presuming that it is
pretty comprehensive :-).

Good. Now we need to talk a bit about scope.
Finding the stamps database took a fair bit of effort, first to locate
it, and second to verify that it was, in fact, a pretty deep and
accessible database.
The point here, is that I cannot provide you with ten such databases
as an answer to a question priced at $25. Other researchers may feel
differently, but I'd be surprised if there are any here who could
provide the list you are seeking at the price offered.
I don't mean to shock you, but I'd say a much more realistic price
would be $25 per database, given the amount of effort involved.
Please consider how we can best provide a service to you that gets you
the information you desire, and at the same time provides researchers
here a fair compensation for the effort involved.
I look forward to hearing back from you,
paf
