I'm looking for a piece of exercise equipment called "the arm hammer".
It was a relatively portable device with a smallfootprint at its base
- maybe 4ft by 2ft. The user attached weights to a lever (about 4
feet) in front of the machine...thus, the lever made the weight
heavier than it's actual weight. It had a seat and a preacher style
bench for doing arm curls. New or used is fine.

There is a line of exercise devices called "Hammer Strength." Do any
of these devices look like the equipment you're seeking?

Thank you for responding so quickly. I looked at the links, in depth.
They didn't provide what I seek. HammerStrength is mostly a line of
professional gym quality exercise equipment. Although highly regarded,
it doesn't fit my needs met by the arm hammer.
The arm hammer is one machine. The center of it is a preacher bench
curl stand. This consists of a padded seat and a padded platform to
hold the lifter's arms while lifting.
The arm hammer is unique in that it uses a levered bar/device in front
to increase the amount of weight...so that 35lbs feels like 50lbs.
The lever can be lifted back over the preacher bench for additional
exercises.
At its core, the arm hammer is a portable gym with a strong focus on
arm training.
I remember the inventor was from New York, claimed to be some type of
genius, and belonged to one of the "Who's Who in America". The arm
hammer came out in approximately 1994.
Again, thank you for your efforts.

I have *exactly* the machine you are refering to ("The Hammer")...and
I found your posting becuase I was looking on-line for a place to
donate it! I bought it back in 1993 or 1994 and I'm embarassed to say
the I *never* used it...not even a couple of times! Anyway, I lugged
it with me when I came back east and recently resolved to finally get
it out of my sister's basement after all these years. So, if you're
interested, it's yours (no charge) as long as you are somehow able to
arranage to get it. I live in Washington, DC (even if you couldn't
get it right away that wouldn't be a problem). I took some pictures
of it this weekend which I'd be happy to send you, but trust me, it's
exactly the machine you're thinking it is...I bought it from the guy
you described when it first came out. I also have the chest press
attachment and the lat tower as well as all the hardware (though I
haven't had it actually put together for years..but I was very anal
about keeping all the pieces together). The one thing I don't have is
the manual(!!)...but I bet there's probably someone out there with
one.

Let me know if you're interested....
