How can I do fast email searches in outlook?

I use outlook for business and have thousands and thousands of emails.
 I archive everything that is 3 months old.

If I want to do a search to find all emails from somebody, and I
search inbox, sent items, and maybe a 3rd folder, it takes several
minutes.  This leads to tremendous delays in the running of my
business.

Any other advice on this subject is appreciated.
