I have a small business which I use my computer in my home. I just
bought a laptop and now have it hooked up with a wireless D-Link
router. So I have the home PC and Laptop both on the wireless router
for cable - both running Windows XP. I have 2 problems I need solved
and steps to accomplish them in the LEAST TECHNICAL way possible...

1) How can I check my email (through Outlook) on my laptop (either at
home or away) but still have a copy of that email download on to my PC
which holds all the rest of my emails.

2) How can I work on my work files on my laptop without making the
files on my PC obsolete because they are no longer the most
up-to-date?

Thanks.

1) I don't know except in gmail, there's a setting which will retain
all messages on the gmail storage as well as downloading it to
Outlook; I assume that would allow you to have a copy on each computer
as well as the gmail storage. But then you probably don't use gmail.
But there may be a setting someone else knows of in Outlook which will
keep a copy on the email server. There may also be some completely
different method.

2) It looks like you need to set up file sharing. This would mean
keeping all the files on one computer and then having the ability to
modify them from the other. Of course, the computer with the files on
it would have to be switched on when you want to access them from the
other computer.
Since you've got the network set up already, you've done the hard
bit. Browse to the folders you want to be shared so that they can be
accessed over the network. Right click on each and go to properties.
Go to the Sharing tab and select "Share this folder on the network",
then also select "Allow network users to change my files". Then click
okay and you should be done. To access these folders from the other
computer: click start and go to "My Network Places". Your shared
folders from the other computer should now appear there.
