Hi Debra,
I did some dithering about whether this could be considered
"private/personal" information, and finally decided to post it as a)
It's publicly available. b) Velasco notes in the article cited below
by my colleague pinkfreud...
"...Velasco said some clients come to his Bainbridge home to buy his
paintings."
...which indicates to me that he wouldn't be adverse to hearing from a
potential client. So, my recommendation is to go to the source...
Leandro Velasco, (607) 895-6361, 237 Hay Path Ln, Bainbridge, NY 13733
...and I'm sure he can either provide gallery information and/or other
information about his work.
regards,

What publication and year are you quoting this article from? Also did
you check out the phone number to see if it's working?

Hi Debra,
The article is a 1999 article from "The Daily Star", an area
newspaper...
http://www.thedailystar.com/index.html
There's other information on Velasco available on the Web, although
not all that much. I'll see what I can glean, especially on the Time
cover, in the next few days for you. My apologies on not checking the
phone number first. However, you should still be able to reach him by
fax or mail, whhich again is probably your best bet for eact
information.
Just a note for using Google Answers, if you ask further questions,
you might want to wait for the researcher to respond to your question
clarification before rating an answer, as it somewhat kills the
incentive to provide further information beyond personal pride.

No further information on Velasco or the Time Magazine cover
specifically appears to be available on the Web using the search terms
"Leandro Velasco." I checked the Time Magazine database, which only
goes back to 1985, without success.

No problem about the rating. I probably deserve it given that I
didn't check the telephone number first. Be assured most researchers
whip themselves harder than any customer can when they make a mistake.
:-)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by, "which site on the internet did
you find any-thing about him any way?" as I cited my search strategy
and links, but let me see if I can clarify a little better.
There is no one site for a source of information on Velesco. The
personal information I found comes from a site titled "Art in
Colombia" http://www.verdessoto.com. If you go to that site, click on
the "English" link and then click on the "To My Teacher" link at the
bottom of the page, and then scroll down the new page a bit, you'll
see a photo of Velasco with one of his paintings that is hyperlinked
to the "Personal Data" page which I cited in my earler clarification.
As for the other links I posted, most of them came from a Google
Search using the term, "Leandro Velasco" Note the use of quotes, which
instructs the Google search engine to display only those pages where
the exact phrase is used. You can view the results by clicking on this
link...
When the results from a Google search are relatively slim, as they are
with Velasco, I, like most other researchers, will turn to other
search engines. I'm fond of what's called a "meta-search engine"
(that is a search engine that queries multiple search engines and
displays the results simultaneously) called "Kartoo"
(http://kartoo.com/), which displays results as a visual "map." In
this case, though Kartoo polled several other major search engines
with different queries on Velasco and the Time Magazine cover that
you're particularly interested in, I couldn't find any further
information.
Finally, as I noted, the Time Magazine web site apparently doesn't
provide results earlier than 1985. If you're trying to find a copy of
that particular issue, which appeaed to be released on or about
Christmas week, 1971, you might want to try your library, magazine
dealers, or ebay.
Hope that gives you the background on how I found the information I
provided, Debra. Best of luck with your search for the Time magazine
cover.
regards,
rico
