Are thre any guidelines on choosing an anesthesia technique for bone marrow harvest or autologus adult stem cell harvest? Do any of the commonly used agents ie:nitrous oxide.desflurane.sevoflurane,isoflurane have deliterous effects on the cells harvested and should be avoided? How many citations can you find? | |

gasman... I found only about 3 citations, both for bone marrow harvest - 2 with general anaesthetic, 1 with local - no further specifications or contraindications. |

Hello gasman, I've found several citation to the harvesting of progenitors from peripheral blood using local anaesthesia. Avoidance of general anesthesia is mentioned as an advantage, but only in terms of the decreased risk to patients and not in order to improve the quality of the harvest. |
