Dear Purplegecko97,
I do not pretend that this is a definitive answer, but just surfing
around the web I found a site which included the phrase "dead woman's
lipstick." Now, since this phrase probably occurs in many different
places on this earth, it may not be accurate. But if the person who
"quoted" it to you is a cat lover, there was a serial published in
_Cats_ Magazine, "Cat on the Money," which included that phrase. It
can be found at <http://www.sylviaengdahl.com/joegrey/money01.htm>.
By way of providing further unsolicited advice, I guess I would say
that metaphorically it seems that the person who said this in their
sleep has a rather dramatic sense of being tied down by an element of
their past. Does this person watch a lot of movies or plays? I would
hazard a guess that the line is cinematic or dramatic rather than
strictly "literary" or "mythic."
Good luck, and let me know if I can be of any more help.
The search term I used on Google was: "dead woman's lipstick"
(including the quotes keeps the phrase intact).
