Question ID: 61496
What are the sizes of the Unix and Windows software markets in
dollars?

Additional data would be helpful, such as breakout by Unix platforms,
consumer vs. B2B,
and by geographic area (US, Europe, Asia).

jwmci -- thank you for the question. It's typical of the types of
market research questions that we computer types often see, and this
is an interesting split for many.

The question is easier to answer when referring only to OS software
itself, as there are aready many divisions already in geography,
customer type, single- vs. multi-processor systems; CPU type. Note
too that market share by units may be easier to find than by dollars.

When adding ALL types of software, numbers get more difficult to
assemble. They're also probably less accurate because it's harder to
cross-check numbers from different sources. In addition,
service/consulting/installation revenues can get mixed up with pure
software costs.

So, to focus the clarification:
-- would you like share for ALL software or for operating system
software only?
-- are units acceptable in place of $$

Best regards,

I am looking for application software revenue, not operating system
revenue. Units would not be helpful. I do understand that it's
difficult. Let me know how I can help.
