Dear fishguy-ga, I have located a website that will give you the
information you need (and itīs free!) an example of which is below.
However there are 4256 private golf clubs in the database and 3542
semi-private clubs in the database. It is not really practical to
post the 7798 details of each golf club here. Is it acceptable to you
if I give you details of how to access the site and filter the data to
list only the private and/or semi private clubs?
Example information from the database:

Providing the website, with clarification on how to search for the
appropriate information would be acceptable.
|
Hi fishguy-ga, and thank you for the clarification.
OK, here is how to access the information you require:
(1.)Go to this website:
http://www.golfcourse.com/search/custom.cfm
(It will be best if you 'copy and paste' this web address into the
browser bar so you can follow my instructions)
towards the bottom right of the form you will see:
Public
Private
Semi-Private
Military
Resort
Click on the box you require (in your case private and/or
semi-private, a tick will appear)It is important that you do not click
on any other boxes .ie just those type of courses you want listed.
You can click on multiple boxes and both types of courses will be
listed together ie private and semi-private.
(2.) Click on "Locate"
(3.) You will then see the first ten golf clubs of the type you have
selected (ie. private and/or semi-private) Click on the name of the
club you want to see the details of. This will then give you the
information about that golf club. (To view the next ten clubs click on
[Next 10] )
NOTE: You can also sort by Course Name, City, or State by clicking on
the underlined text above the respective column.
(4.) To view the facilities that the golf club offers, look at the
bottom left hand side of the page and you will see "MORE INFORMATION
ON....CLUB" click where it says "Club Facilities" and the relevant
facilities for the selected club will appear.
NOTE: The database is quite large and it will take a few seconds for
the pages to 'load'
Thank you for the question and if you need any clarification of my
answer do not hesitate to ask.
Best Regards and good luck with your research.

The search strategy I found the information with was :
"golf directory"

I've tried to use the information you provided. This is very
cumbersome for my purpose. I have to follow a link to each club to
get the relevant information. I am looking for a list with the
relevant information. Any other thoughts would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi fishguy-ga,
I have to say that golfcourse.com
(http://www.golfcourse.com/search/custom.cfm) is by far the best
resource on the internet for your needs. The other options are to buy
a CD, see below (which presents the data in a similar format so you
wouldnīt gain anything there) or to manually go through YellowPages
which doesnīt bear thinking about. There are are other golf course
databases online but they are not nearly as detailed as golfcourse.com
"Two recent discoveries, both worth checking out if you're looking for
a spot to tee it up on your next vacation, are Golfcourse.com
(http://golfcourse.com) and Golfserv (http://www.golfserv.com).
Both of the sites have a connection to Golf magazine. I don't know
whether either is completely new, or a greatly improved version of the
magazine's online course directory that I checked out a couple of
years ago and found wanting, so much so that I didn't go back.
Whatever the case, these two are both worthy of any golfer's
attention.
Golfcourse.com is not only very complete but very well-organized and
easy to use."
http://www.inlandempireonline.com/traveler/html/1999/071899.html
I also have a list of just postal addresses of 6387 golf courses in
the USA. in an MSWord document, however they are JUST postal
addresses.
This site is similar to golfcourse.com (the site recommended in my
answer, but requires registering for a free membership)
http://www.golfserv.com/apps/courses/search.asp?mainnav=courses&subnav=courses1
There is also a CD-rom for sale $29.95 + shipping
Get Instant Information on over 17,000 courses
across the USA and Canada
http://www.forebettergolf.com/greengrass/
There are various other golf course data bases however they are not
'searchable' by golf course catagory:
http://www.golfhere.com/usa.htm
http://www.play18.com/play18/
http://www.ifyougolf.com/coursefinder/USA/
The only other suggestion I have is to use Google to search the site,
and set the number of listings to 100. This will give you 100 links
per search page. Click on the link below to see what I mean
(substitute the words "public courses" to "private courses" or
"semi-private courses" to return the desired results 100 at a time.
://www.google.com/search?as_q=&num=10&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=public+course&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=www.golfcourse.com&safe=images
If you have any other points, queries or whatever, do not hesitate to
let me know.
Best Regards
THX1138
Just as a footnote.
The MS Word document I have lists 6387 golf courses and is 149 pages
in length! and thatīs with one line per club (more or less)! I
suspect the information you require would run to more than one line
per club, hence the reason for the information to be in a searchable
database in the format of www.golfcourse.com and not in one single
document.
All the best

Database Licensing" to find out how much it would cost to purchase the
database in a different format (and if itīs possible!)
I will let you know their answer as soon as I have heard from them.

Hi fishguy-ga,
After several e-mails to the Database Licensing dept I have received
their reply. As you can see the cost to have a license for their
database (which would presumably give you the access you need) is
between $15,000 and $50,000 annually (I was surprised too!)
The best way (and only way) to get the information you require at a
resonable price (ie. free) is to use the method described in my
answer. Iīm sorry the access to the information seems slow, but the
information is all there, and is regularly updated, and it is free.
If I can be of any further help, please not hesitate to ask.
Best Regards

E-mail received 5th September:
"We license our database on an annual basis, as we do not sell our
database outright. The costs are from $15,000 annually to $50,000
annually.
If you are planning to do mailing lists, we have a different price
structure.
