I had to re-install my operating system (9.01) on my Mac Powerbook. I had backed up all of the files on my hard drive. I do not have my emails or addresses in Outlook Express, nor do I have my bookmarks in IE. Where are the emails and addresses on my hard drive? Can I restore them? How? How about IE? Everything else is fine. I thought I had it, but I didn't. Thanks for any help. | |

Hello cb-ga This might require a few rounds of actions and clarifications. I assume you have simply re-installed the operating system without a reformat of the hard disk. The living place for your Explorer bookmarks should be in the > System > Preferences > Explorer folder (did you do a clean or standard re-install?) If you have a automatically created 'System backup' folder sitting on your Macintosh HD your history will be residing in this > System > Preferences > Explorer folder and you need to transfer it to your active System folder in the location > System > Preferences > Explorer folder BUT before you replace it, to be double safe make a copy of it to your desktop by pressing 'alt' (option key) and dragging it at the same time before you overwrite it. If you don't have the automatically created backup System folder residing on your Macintosh HD, look in your own back up files for your System folder and locate > System > Preferences > Explorer folder and copy it to the same location in the active System folder. Your Outlook Express emails reside in the > Outlook Express > Outlook Express > Identities > Main Identity folder To be extra safe again make a backup of your Outlook Express folder that you see on your Macintosh HD to your desktop, then locate your own back up files and locate the 'Identities' folder and copy it to the same location on your Macintosh HD. Let me know how you go, and get back with a clarification if it's worked or not. regards lot-ga |

Ah, so. I didn't do a "complete" backup it appears. So, all of that it gone. Ya know, I'm glad. It was time to start fresh on the bookmarkets on IE and I know all of my friends emails by heart. Thanks. (Just remember that we Mac users don't have an ALT key. And the name of the folders were slightly a bit, but then I'm driving what appears to be an antique in OS 9.01.) Good job!! |
