I need an 2 or 3 example images that highlight the gamma differences between Mac and windows. I need these to show my students why it is so important to check web graphics created on a Mac that will be displayed on PCs. |

Hi sherpaj-ga: Thanks for the interesting question! Since you are obviously knowledgable about *why* these gamma differences occur (heck, you're teaching others about them), I won't go into the reasons for these annoying color differences in pictures on Macs and PCs. :-) I was able to find several illustrative examples of the gamma difference. Each of these images come on pages that might also have some interesting technical/theoretical information you might want to build into your teachings (depending on how advanced your students are). 1. From Computer Graphics Systems Development Corp. Page: http://www.cgsd.com/papers/gamma.web.html (top of page) Images: http://www.cgsd.com/papers/portrait.mac.jpg http://www.cgsd.com/papers/portrait.pc.jpg Description: A very nice comparison of a portrait shot. 2. Also from Computer Graphics Systems Development Corp. Page: http://cgsd.com/papers/gamma_diagram.html Images: Many images in the table on this page Decription: This great table shows you Input Signals, Software Correction Required, Built-in Hardware Correction, and Output signal for *6* different types of systems, including Mac and PC. 3. From creativepro.com Page: http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/7584.html Images: http://www.creativepro.com/img/story/img_7584_3.jpg http://www.creativepro.com/img/story/img_7584_4.jpg Description: A nice example of how an "advertisement" banner might look different. 4. From Kanisa Solution Page: http://adobedoc.kanisasolution.com/Photoshop6/Help.htm Images: http://adobedoc.kanisasolution.com/Photoshop6/images/ct_15.gif Description: A single gif file that nicely shows that "washed-out" effect. 5. From webreview Page: http://www.webreview.com/1999/08_06/designers/08_06_99_1.shtml Images: http://www.webreview.com/1999/08_06/designers/graphics/fig2_a.gif http://www.webreview.com/1999/08_06/designers/graphics/fig3_a.gif Description: Not as explicit in the text, but a nice visual comparison nonetheless. I hope these examples help you out in your class! Please let me know if you need any clarification of this answer before you rate it.
