Hello,

Several sites, including CBS.com (www.cbs.com/primetime/9_11/),
PBS.org (www.pbs.org/insidepbs/news/remember911.html) and Scholastic
magazine (teacher.scholastic.com/newszone/specialreports/911/rescue.htm)
say 343 firefighters died at the World Trade Center on 9-11.

According to the Defense Department, 125 people died in the Pentagon.
See (http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/pentagon.victims.html).

Seventy-two law-enforcement officers died, according to the National
Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
(http://www.nleomf.com/WhatsNew/PressReleases/engrav02.html) and the
Officer Down Memorial Page
(http://www.odmp.org/yeardisp.php?year=2001). This includes people
from the FBI (1), the fire marshal (1), NYPD (23), NY State Office of
Court Administration (3), NY State Office of Tax Enforcement (5), Port
Authority PD (37), US Fish & Wildlife Service (1) and US Secret
Service (1). The Fish & Wildlife Service officer was on one of the
planes; the rest were at the World Trade Center.

Firehouse.com (http://www.firehouse.com/lodd/2001/fdny_memorial/nov18service.html)
and Emergency Medical Services magazine
(http://www.emsmagazine.com/issues/article0006.html) say a total of
eight public and private EMS (emergency medical services) workers died
at the World Trade Center.

The AP (http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/rescue.victims.html)
lists 2,650 people confirmed dead at the World Trade Center. That
number minus 343, minus 71, minus 8 equals 2,228 members of the
general public confirmed killed at the World Trade Center on 9-11.

CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/victims/main.html)
says 266 people died on board the planes. The answer to your fifth
question is thus 266 plus 2,228 or 2,494.

I hope this answer meets your needs.
