Viking1,

I cannot find any references to a "General Soewarno" (or "General
Suwarno") in Indonesia's War of Independence from 1945-55.

1. Can you confirm the spelling of his name?
2. "Soewarno" may only be his first name, like "John" in "John Smith".
Does he also have a last name?
3. Besides "Suwarno", are there any alternate spellings of his name?
4. Do you know any other details of his life? Dates, battles,
commands, etc.?
5. In the late 1990's, there was a spokesman for the Indonesian
military named "General Suwarno Adiwijoyo". There was also a "General
Suwarto" in the 1950's and 1960's. Are either of these men the
individual you are referring to?

Thank you,
Huntsman

Huntsman , thankyou for your interest
The spelling is correct, although it is transalted from another
script. It is not Suwarto.
he is currently in his mid-90's, .
I will revert on his "other" name
thanks

I've found a reference to a man named ' Mayjen Purnawirawan Soewarno'
(I assume mayjen = major), but the document is in neither English nor
Indonesian - it seems to be Dutch or Finnish! It seems to be an email
from a Netherlands radio program talking about world affairs and war
particularly - Xanana Gusmao and the 'Kosovo Crisis' both get
mentions. I don't know if it will be useful to you, but maybe you can
find a translator? The address is

Shananigans:

It is perfectly normal for Indonesians to have only one name, and so
you probably won't find out any more there. It is also perfectly
normal for the writeup to be in Dutch (it's not Finnish, by the way)
because Indonesia before 1947 was the Dutch East Indies and was
controlled by the Netherlands.

I won't make any comments about Huntsman here.
