My ggrandfather was born on Dec. 7, 1828 to Johann and Dorothea
Westphal in Closdorf (Klocksdorf) Schwerin, Mecklenberg and migrated
to America in Dec. 1852, or 1855 with the Saubert family, Mary as his
wife. Can anyone verify if there are any validity to existance of
these Westphals in that area? I was given the name of Andre Von Studt
from Hamburg by Kartenmeister as a possible lead.

What was your grandfather's full name?

What were your grandmother Mary's and your great grandmother
Dorothea's maiden names?

Do you know any of the given names for the Saubert family with whom
your grandfather traveled?

Why is Andre von Studt a lead? Who was or is he?

Dear ed76,

Locating the birthplace was quite easy, since the village's name is
still Klocksdorf today. In the 19th century, it belonged to the former
German grand-duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (please note: Mecklenburg,
not Mecklenberg). Today, it is located in the Land
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and part of the community of Rhena.
That's the good news. The bad news is, I was not able to find out
anyhing about Westphals in that village. But you might want to contact
the civil registry office in Rhena, competent in local genealogy
questions:

Standesamt Rehna
Freiheitsplatz 1
19217 Rehna
Germany
Phone: (+49)038872-92914
Fax: (+49)038872-92922
E-Mail: amt@rehna.de
Website (in German!):

In case you'd like to contact the German genealogist, André Studt,
here is contact information:
E-Mail: genealogy@studt-hh.de

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards,
Scriptor
