alpha particle decay of Po(212).a) by using the empirical average
radius of nucleus r-r-sub-o A raised to 1/3 (r-sub-o = 1.2x 10(^-15)m,
or 1.2 fm)write an expression for the nuclear separation between the
"reduce" Po(212) nucleus (i.e, Po (208) and the alpha particle
(double-iornized He atom) when they are just touching one another.
evaluate this nuclear "separation". b). write expression of the height
of the barrier at the above distance assuming that the height can be
derived as the Coulomb potential of point charges.take into account
that the charge of the remaining nucleus has been reduced by two by
teh alpha emission. c). evaluate the height of the barrier when the
nuclear separtion is that found in part (a). d) if an experiement
indicates that Po(212) emits an alpha particle of energy E(Mev) write,
using the expression derived in (b) to find an equation for r, the
distance at which the Coulomb potential energy drops tot eh value E.
then evaluate the distance r of E=8.78Mev. e). using the results of
parts (a) and (b) calculate the width of the barrier. f). equating
the kinetic energy E of the alpha particles to the observed 8.78Mev,
evaluate the speed V of the alpha particle as it hists the "wall"
inside the nucleus. (hint: mass of the alpha particle is 3727Mev/c
raised to 2.g) calculate the frequency f with which the alpha particle
hits the inside walls of the nucleus if R is now the nuclear
separation calculated in (d). h). write an expression for the
probability of the alpha particle tunneling through the nuclear
barrier(Gamow). then use the value of the velocity of the alpha
particle as it si emitted from the Po(212) nucleus v alpha. to
calculated this probability (mass of the alpha particle is 3757MeV/c.
I found a,b, and c but has problems with d,e,f,g,and h. I am sure I
calculated wrong somewhere several of us (friend) tried every one had
different answers so please help
I need this by sunday 9/8/02 thanks |
