Hi, Jeeze !
I've trolled through lots of Def Leppard sites and there certainly
seem to be some major gaps in the information about thios second short
European tour in 1983. Even the Def Leppard Archives at:
http://cryoem.berkeley.edu/~nieder/leppard/tours/1983_tour_dates.txt
list only four of the gigs, in common with several other sites, so
there's obviously a lot of vconfusion about this second short European
tour in 1983.
The msot useful site I found was Darren's Def Leppard site which does
fill in a few blanks for you::
http://www.angelfire.com/home/defleppdaz/deftour1983main.html
To summarise his information and yours: Darren has:
October:
* Fri 7th Oct Stockholm, Sweden, bootleg recording "Sweden 83"
* unknown gig
* unknown gig
* unknown date Oct, Essen, Germany, bootleg video exists
* You have Oct 12th Koln, (Cologne) Germany.
Darren has:
* Wed 12th October, Frankfurt , Germany
* Thurs 13th, Offenbach, Germany
* unknown date Oct. Erlangen, Germany.
This took place in the Stanhalle, and Darren has a copy of the poster
on his site. He places it earlier than the Milan concert, and it
certainly makes more sense than backtracking from Italy.
* unknown date, Oct. Hamburg, Germany, possible at the Docks.
* unknown date, Oct. Italy
* Thurs 20th Oct, Milan, Italy. Bootleg recording "Milan '83'
exists.
Here is some information about that concert:
"Support = Rock Goddess.
Setlist for Oct. 20th:
Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop),
Rock Brigade,
High 'N' Dry (Saturday Night),
Another Hit And Run - extended,
Billy's Got A Gun,
Mirror, Mirror (Look Into My Eyes),
Foolin' - acoustic intro by Steve,
Photograph,
Rock Of Ages - singalong,
Bringin on the Heartbreak/Switch 625,
Phil Solo/Let It Go,
Steve Solo/Wasted,
Encore:
Stagefright
Travellin' Band. "
* Unknown date, Oct. San Sebastian, Spain
There was trouble in the crowd at this concert. "Some 'fans' start
spitting at the band and a fight breaks out. During the sing-a-long
Joe is hit by a coin which hits him just above his right eye. Joe
jumps into the crowd to beat the guy up.
Exert from 'Animal Instinct': 'But then his mates joined in and beat
the shit out of me," Joe says. "Some of our road crew jumped in and
within mintutes there were 15 people fighting". Joe nearly punched
roadie Malvin Mortimer in the face by mistake." Joe still has a scar
from the coin thrown. '"
* Fri 28th Oct. Barcelona, Spain at the Sports Palace. Bootleg
recording "Spain 83".
November:
* unknown date, Nov. France
* unknown date, Nov. France
* Mon. 7th Nov, Clermont-Ferrand, France, at Le Sporting Club.
Bootleg recording "Clermont-Ferrand."
* Tues. 9th Nov, Paris, France. Sold out concert at L'Espace Balard.
* You have Wed. 10th Nov. Lyon, France
* Thurs. 11th Nov, Orleans, France, Hall de Prestige, bootleg
recording "Orleans '83".
* nknown date, Nov., Holland.
* unknown date, Brussels, Belgium. There's a photo from this concert
on Darren's site.
* Wed. 16th Nov., Antwerp, Belgium. Darren has this as the last
concert of the tour, as well as the last concert with Rock Goddess.
This gives a schedule of some 22 gigs, which is quite substantial.
Note that this seems to give an itinerary in France of
Clermont-Ferrand - Paris - Lyon - Orleans which, while possible, isn't
the most logical route. Clermont-Ferrand - Lyon - Orleans - Paris
would make more sense. Coming from Spain, Toulouse and /or Bordeaux
would have been logical stop for one of the early "France" gigs with
no location listed. (But then, when were tour organisers ever logical
about routes?)
The band then played three sold out gigs in the UK in December, and
were back in Germany for the Rockpalast Festival on Dec.18th.
Thank you for an interesting question.
