I am looking for a very hard to find 50-pin to ATAPI-JAE (Japan Aviation Electronics) connector: http://home.earthlink.net/%7Etuxshield/sale/nlx_cable.jpg This cable is used to connect a slimline CD-ROM drive to a 50-pin motherboard connector. It has been used in Sun machines as well as PC NLX motherboards and is nearly impossible to find. |

ez76, You are right, it IS practically impossible to find this cable. I looked for about an hour. The closest I came was finding a CD-ROM that uses the JAE -ATAPI connector cable, but the company doesn't have the cable! I called SHENTECH.COM, Flushing, New York 11355, U.S.A. 888-387-2138 (Sales), 718-661-3306 (Tech. Support). http://www.shentech.com/litls8xdvd24.html Shentech SELLS the CD-ROM (Lite-On) that uses the cable you are searching for, but NOT the cable! (Our conversation followed a Jerry Seinfeld routine about car rental companies . You know how to TAKE the reservation, but you dont know how to HOLD the reservation .) I asked the rep how folks who might ORDER the the CD-ROM used it without the cable, but he didnt know (Nor did he seem to care). He had no recommendations or resources of where to locate the cable. I will keep trying however. |

if you can find specifications of the cable, you could probably solder your own connector cable. it would involve something along the lines of finding the end to the hard to find cable (just the plug) and soldering some wires into it, then getting a standard ide cable, cutting it in half, and connecting the appropriate wires on one onto the other. good luck. |
