Hi there, The statue outside the entrance to the Maracana Stadium is of Hieraldo Luiz Belini, captain of the Brazilian team that won the World Cup final in 1958, beating Sweden in Sweden. Two pictures of the statue: http://www.cdt.luth.se/~dick/Pictures/MWCN/Maracana.jpg http://www.eneabba.net/radlinks/Brazil/album6/rio64.jpg Close-up of the words at the base of the statue: http://www.cdt.luth.se/%7Edick/Pictures/MWCN/1958.jpg Link to a picture of the statue that describes it as being Belini: http://web.archive.org/web/20011114141304/http://www.123-rio.com/v_bras/rjgb-n11.htm Search strategy: Google Image search: Maracana http://images.google.com/images?q=maracana I trust this answers your question. If any portion of my answer is unclear, please ask for clarification. Best wishes, robertskelton-ga |
