I'm not sure an answer here would be helpful. Even if two or more TV
models rolled off the same factory assembly line, that wouldn't make
them identical. Each "name brand" company could require its own
feature set, quality levels, etc. Also, there are a number of
electronics manufacturers in Mexico that serve only as builders of
products for other companies. (Solectron is one such.)
Consider the analogy of laptop PCs. Nearly all laptop PCs on the
market are made by a small handful of Taiwanese manufacturers (Compal,
LG, etc.). The PC vendors (Dell, Compaq, HP, etc.) provide their own
specifications and sometimes custom designs. These laptops are rarely
interchangeable.
Several big TV manufacturers do have their own assembly plants in
Mexico - I know Sony does. Also, there are fewer manufacturers of
picture tubes (and plasma/LCD panels) than of TV sets that use them.
There might be a few brands of low-end 27" sets that mainly differ in
cosmetics, but I think this is rare. It's not like how you used to be
able to buy the same car as a Dodge or Plymouth... |
