What does the Japanese word for ENTER look like? I do not have any asian character sets in my browser, so I would prefer a large gif or jpeg of the word. |

Hi twiddler-ga, This website will allow you to enter words or phrases in English and the results will be shown to you in Japanese. <a href="<a href="http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?1C">http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?1C</a>"><a href="http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?1C">http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jwb/wwwjdic?1C</a></a> Almost all words and phrases lose some sort of meaning through different language translations, and sometimes it can be difficult to translate exact words. The word 'enter' can be used in different contexts, and this site will give you several examples. I used the Google search engine and the keywords &quot;english, japanese, translation&quot; I hope you find this information useful! Sincerely, gummi-ga | |

gummi -- Which browser are you using to get Japanese characters? If I use Opera 6, I get a bunch of rectangles, while in IE6, I see a bunch of strange characters that don't have anything to do with Japanese. |

Contrary to what gummi-ga says, the referenced web pages are encoded with charset=euc-jp and do (for Internet Explorer) require the Japanese character set to be downloaded. One possibility is http://dict.regex.info/cgi-bin/j-e/dict. The site took some experimentation to figure out how to use. One clue is to set the color of the Kanji to something other than white since the default seems to be white on white, which doesn't show up. As to the actual answer to your question, it seems to depend a lot on just what you mean by "ENTER". |

If you mean Enter like the keyboard key, http://dict.regex.info/cgi-bin/j-e/fg=r/jap/%c6%fe%ce%cf%a5%ad%a1%bc?TR is a picture of it, and the word is pronounced "nyuurokukii" or "nyuuryokukii". If you meant some other kind of enter, http://dict.regex.info/cgi-bin/j-e/dosearch?sDict=on&sCompu=on&H=PW&L=E&T=enter&WC=none&fg=r&S=26 contains a list of meanings for enter, the appropriate Romanji (Japanese spelled using A-Z), and a link to an image of the characters. |

ENTER written in all caps sounds like the question asker is asking the name of the "ENTER" key on a keyboard. This is called the 'nyuuryokukii' but when Japanese think about the action the key does, they just think 'nyuuryoku'. Chinese Characters literally mean "put in" and "power" - meaning "enter", "entry" (as in data entry), etc. |
