I have been unable to locate a comprehensive market survey for
disposable nappies in Australia on the Internet. There are, however,
proprietary reports available in the $500-600 price range.
I have gleaned the following information:
The leading brand in Australia is Pampers with sales in the $3 to 5b
AUD bracket in 2001.
Huggies is second with sales of $199,571 AUD millions
Both figures are from the AC Neilsen "Top Supermarket Brands" study
July 2001
Also, disposable nappies sales grew by $36.7 million 2001 vs 2000
placing the product as one of the fastest growing categories in AU
with 11% growth 2001 vs 2000
A likely growth driver for the category is "Trading up to Premium (at
expense of Generics) and price increase (part GST)"

Perhaps useful for identifying leading brands in Australia, a leading
publication comparison tested nappies. Eleven different brands are
tested for comfort, fit, performance and price.
Brands tested: Huggies, Baby Love, Snugglers, Benetton, VIPs,
Franklins No Frills, Target Dry/Soft, Little Wishes, Coles Savings,
Bebes Ultra and Woolworths Home Brand.

(It is curious that Pampers is missing from this list. Perhaps because
it is an "international" brand? Which I take to mean not manufactured
in AU.)
I'll continue to try to find a comprehensive report through other
sources, but I am not optimistic. |
