How much does it cost to furnish the average new home of 2000 square
feet in a typical midwest city (Omaha, Saint Louis, Kansas City, or
Des Moines, or similar city); including all of the furniture (beds,
tables, couches, chairs), all floor coverings (carpets, tile, etc),
window treatments (draperies, blinds, etc), lighting (table lamps,
recessed lights), appliances (refridgerators, stoves, etc), dishes,
linens, plumbing (toilets, sinks, faucets, etc. NOT plumbing pipes or
electrical wiring. This should be the average price for furnishing a
newly built, medium-sized home. A breakdown for each category is
required, for example, $1400 for beds, $450 for dishes, etc. |

Hi researchondemand,
I have been researching your question for several hours, and I have
found information on typical 2000 s.f. houses, but I can find no
definitive list of what an average cost to furnish might be. I have an
inventory list of furnishings, and information on what rooms would be
in a typical house of that size.
I have furnished many houses in different parts of the country, and
have selected appliances, flooring, fixtures, lighting, window
treatments, etc. for newly built homes and for remodeling projects.
From this information, and from what I know of the prices of
furnishings, including furnishing prices available online, I could put
together the information you request, and in the format you need. It
would not be specific to any particular city, but could approximate an
average cost using mid-priced furnishings.
Would this meet your needs?

I need a more definitive answer, preferably from a web site, a journal
source, an association, a professional group, etc. The customer wants
to use this information to defend his pricing and I am afraid if the
information comes from an individual, the client will say the numbers
are biased. Can you find a quotable source?
