Hi, TracyAnn.
I'm providing a link that will take you to some very well illustrated
step-by-step instructions that I use to coil my hair into a ballerina
bun (I wear mine lower, closer to the nape of the neck than the model
in the photos, but the method is the same.) My hair is mid-back
length, and I use the method at the top of the page. Lower on the page
you will find instructions for making a variation of the ballerina bun
for very long hair. This is the best photographic depiction of the
steps in making a bun that I have found on the Web.
The Bronze Jewelers site also sells lovely hair accessories such as
snoods, combs and chignon picks.

Another way to achieve a similar look is to buy a donut chignon shaper
(sold at many beauty supply stores.) To use a chignon shaper, you pull
your hair through the center, then coil and tuck the hair in circular
fashion around the donut, pinning diagonally with hairpins or long
bobbypins as you go. I don't much like the bulk that the shaper adds,
since my hair is already very thick, but if you have fine hair, the
shaper may be helpful.
My search strategy consisted of a visit to a favorite site: the Long
Hair Community Board, a very helpful place to learn hair tips and also
to meet some nice women (and every now and then a longhaired fella.)
You might want to browse the board, where many members have posted
photos showing ways that they style their long hair. Lots of creative
buns and French twists here:

I hope this helps! If anything I've said is unclear, or if a link does
not function, please ask for clarification before rating my answer.
Best wishes,
