I have an AVID Media Composer system (ver 8.x) running on a Windows NT
4.0 Workstation-based computer. I want to add 6 firewire drives to
it. Each drive has an external exclosure (using the Oxford 911
chipset) with a 160gig ata drive running at 10,000 rpm. Will this
work? Do I need a driver or will NT 4 support it w/o. What software
should I use to format it? Do you happen to know if AVID officially
supports this kind of thing. This space will only be used for
offloading video files, not for recording or playback.

It would be helpful to know if you currently have a firewire card
installed in your system, and if so, which one. As my first step for
investigating your question, I have been trying to see if windows NT
is compatible with firewire in the first place. Since you are doing
video editing, I would assume it is, but nonetheless this would be
helpful. To my knowledge, firewire support was included with windows
98se and later.
