to used Hoffman wheel balancing equipment, but no contact information
for the company itself. I just seemed really strange that there would
be no official web presence for such a popular company...

"Hofmann" wheel balancing company (next to another, non-automotive
"Hoffman" company).

Checking things out under that new spelling, I hit the jackpot. 

I'm certain what you are looking for is the "HOFMANN" company. [It is
not uncommon for many people to make these sorts of common spelling
errors (especially in Germanic-type names).]
