Will be visiting San Francisco the week of November 17th with 3 other guys to see the sights and a Raider football game- On Tuesday 11/19 we had hoped to see a cabaret show with female impersonators, such as "Guys R Dolls"-Unfortunately we cannot find a show of this nature that plays on Tuesday evenings at a reasonable hour- Trannyshack, a drag review, doesn't start until midnight, which is too late for us-Also we are not looking for a strip club-Any suggestions for this type of risque entertainment or comparable fun for 4 middle aged, somewhat adventurous guys? | |

Hey flash - You are in luck! Guys R Dolls just happens to be playing that day! I am not sure what time you are getting or if you want a matinee (I hardly think so) but here is the information anyways. Glenview Performing Arts Center 1318 Glenfield Ave (off ark Blvd) Oakland Sunday Matinees 3pm November 17 th Seating Limited Reservations Recommended 415.551.9785 $39.95 Comp Adult Beverage Over 21 with ID If you are not available that Sunday.. there are a lot of shows that run every Friday and Saturday. I have listed several out for you. From Welcome to sfdrag.com, the virtual home of San Francisco's finest female impersonators! ( http://www.sfdrag.com/listings.html ) Faux Girls Drag Caberet: "Marlenas, located at 488 Hayes Street (at Octavia), is The Citys drag-friendliest bar, with many members of the Royal and Imperial Courts frequently in attendance. The owner, Marlena, is Absolute Empress XXV of San Francisco. In addition to Fauxgirls!, featuring Anjelica Devarox and Victoria Secret, Marlena's also presents other revues and special benefit shows. Call 415-864-6672 for current show information. There is never a cover charge! Marlena's is located in the lovely Hayes Valley area, a short walk from Davies Symphony Hall in the Civic Center. There are many fine restaurants within a few blocks. Divas, located at 1081 Post Street (at Polk), presents drag performers every Friday and Saturday night at 11:30pm. The show takes place in the ground floor bar of this three-story club, and is hosted by Absolute Empress XXXIII Alexis Miranda. There is also a quiet cocktail lounge on the top floor, where performers often relax after the show. While this club caters primarily to local guests, the adventurous visitor will find this a unique San Francisco experience! Divas may be reached by telephone at 415-928-6006, or on the web at www.divassf.com. Club Rendez-Vous, located at 1312 Polk Street (at Bush), presents TilFridays, a drag revue that is "untraditional, unusual and unbelievable" on alternate Fridays at 10:30pm and midnight. Hosted by Absolute Empress XXXI Cockatielia, the show also features En Drag performer Sofonda Boyz and other local performers. There is no cover charge. The club is quite comfortable and friendly, and parking is exceptionally convenient, with a multi-level garage only a half-block away at Bush and Polk. For the show schedule, call 415-673-7911 or visit their website at www.clubrendez-vous.com. Finocchio's - Female impersonators in a cabaret-style revue. At Kearny St. 506 Broadway 415-982-9388 ( I am not sure Finocchio's is open anymore.. but its worth a try too ) Additional Resources: Welcome to sfdrag.com, the virtual home of San Francisco's finest female impersonators! http://www.sfdrag.com/listings.html Guys 'R Dolls is San Francisco's premier female impersonation review http://www.themint.net/guysrdolls/ Search Strategy: San Francisco Female Impersonators San Francisco Guys R Dolls San Francisco Female Illusionist It sounds like a lot of fun so I hope you enjoy your trip! You may consider dining at AsiaSF. A quote from their web: "...the restaurant is widely known for its gender illusionists, 3-Star Cal-Asian cuisine and signature cocktails..." Basically, those serving the food also take turns doing performances during the course of the meal. The web site will give you a good idea of the entertainment and menu, which has received positive reviews. Unfortunately, they do not list their hours of operation. (Some review sites indicate that they operate daily, others indicate that they operate Wednesday-Sunday). However, they do provide a way to make reservations online or by phone, so you can attempt to confirm the date for your party. http://www.asiasf.com/ Also, if you have nights other than Tuesday available, you might consider seeing Beach Blanket Babylon. It is the longest running review show in the United States, and is certainly an experience unique to San Francisco (with the exception of when the show takes its act on the road). While I wouldn't describe it as a "sexy" show, it could perhaps be described as bawdy. Transgender performers are not an element of the show... instead, very, very, extraordinarily large hats share the spotlight with the musical performers. http://www.beachblanketbabylon.com/ A recent description of Beach Blanket Babylon can be found at the following link. It is possible that reading it will take the surprise out of the "story line", though I doubt it will diminish the spectacle of the show. http://www.sfstation.com/theatre/beach.htm Have a fun time in San Francisco. |

Dear Snapanswer- Happy Friday morning- Thanks for your imput-We had wanted to see Beach Blanket Babylon, unfortunately it doesn't play on Tuesdays and there was no other available time in our schedule to see it- AsiaSF is also a good suggestion however several of my partners in crime have dietary constraints and thus this also wouldn't for us- Even though they didn't work for us we appreciate your suggestions- Warmest regards- Stephen |
