Can you find for me the title and author of an illustrated children's
book that my grandmother enjoyed when she was young? It had pen and
ink drawings and dated probably from the 1920s or 30s. It concerned
a small toy bear called - I think - Huff, and it followed his
adventures from the time he was given as a present to a small girl,
through her growing up and eventually getting married. I think I
recall the bear saying 'huff', very quietly, whenever he was dropped.
Scenes I remember from the book are a day out on the river with
friends, punting (when Huff falls in), and Huff still being with his
owner as she and her new husband drive away for the start of their
honeymoon.
I can't find any book with 'Huff' in the title in the British Library
online catalogue, but that may be because the book is too early to be
in the online index. Or perhaps the title is something else entirely,
in which case it may be a little more tricky to find. |
