"Behind him, his simple, modern desk and bookshelves were as neat as
an office in a showroom. A slick, flat-screen PC sat on his desk.
Stylish black-and-white photos of his family were on the desk and on
the walls. The books on the shelves were anything but tech manuals."

He probably has more than one desk: one at Microsoft HQ, one at home,
one in his private jet, one in his limo... :)

From an interview with Playboy, 94/12/08:

"Gates uses a Compaq 486/25 Lite notebook (he has
docking stations at the office and at home) and
is looking forward to getting a Compaq Concerto
notebook. Otherwise, Gates doesn't have lots of
time to tinker with the newest computer hot rods."

"Gates has Compaq Deskpro P200 Pentium Pro machine
with Windows NT 4.0 Workstation at his desk in
the Microsoft Campus at Redmond (1997 February).
He has been spotted carrying around IBM Thinkpad
several times during 1996-1997. Rumor says, that
he has removed IBM stickers from his Thinkpad :-)"
