I just need a couple of options please for a place to stay for one night only in Frankfurt in October. I was thinking a B&B but perhaps a small family run hotel that are also relatively cheap. I have already booked a small little family run hotel in Cologne , my major destination, for 49 Euros a night but will need one night in Frankfurt en route. Hopefully something not that difficult to get to carrying suitcases as I am, so perhaps nearer to central train station?? |

Hi- I've not been able to locate lodging in the center of Frankfurt for 49 EU, $69.95 US seems to be the lowest rate. At http://frankfurt.hotelguide.net/hl1rr.htm you'll find a listing of "hotels near the train station" in Frankfurt, but all of these are well above your 49 EU benchmark. I found few B&B in the center of Frankfurt and all were expensive, more than 100 EU The Hotel Kaiserhof, Hotel Tourist, Concorde and Hotel Hamburger Hof appear on several sites. The descriptions are those from the websites. I have no firsthand knowledge of any of these hotels. http://www2.hotelguide.net/cgi-bin/chkrates?SID=HGD&Dest=FRA&LKF=HGD&RTN=frankfurt.hotelguide.net&PROD=HOTEL HOTEL KAISERHOF FRANKFURT CITY $65.95 US rated a "best value" The Hotel Kaiserhof-Frankfurt City is an first class hotel, 7 miles from Frankfurt-Main International Airport, close to the Central Station. HOTEL TOURIST FRANKFURT $65.95 US Hotel Tourist is a tourist class hotel located 12 kilometers from Rhein-Main Airport. As a guest of Hamburger Hof your home is in the city center of Frankfurt opposite central station. $79.95 US A listing of Frankfurt hotels charging under 75 EU is at: http://www.holidaycityeurope.com/frankfurt-80/index.html Also the site http://www.frankfurt4cheap.com/ has hotel listings as well as other "cheap" travel information. You can find special prices on accomodations in Frankfurt at: http://www.mytravelguide.com/cheap-hotel-and-condo-discount-reservations/FRA/ Another listing you might look at is http://frankfurt.4u-hotels.com/ I hope this information helps. It sounds as if you have a great trip planned. Good traveling. Nellie Bly |

Thanks Nellie, that was plenty of options and enough links to work with. Was not really expecting to find a place at 49 Euros as I did in Cologne;just used that figure to show that I am not looking for any five star 2-400 Euros place. US$69 is about what I expected and you have shown some examples of hotels around that price which is all I was after. Sorry I wrongly used "clarification" area for a comment as you pointed out a couple of hours back. I assume that is not proper GA etiquette. Thanks again and happy researching, John From Melbourne |

Hi John-- I'm glad the hotel information is useful. For you future reference: A "clarification" requires an answer from the researcher or from the person with the question. A "comment" is, well, just that a comment, like this one, that does not require an answer but adds something to previous posts or is an aside of some sort. Do not despair, I just got that straight myself. So, you are off trekking. It sounds like a great trip. Will you be investigating European postal services while you are there? :)) Do have a good time. Perhaps you'll find an excuse to come back and tell us about your adventures. Safe traveling. Nellie |

Thanks again Nellie; you straightened me out also on the right etiquette in regards comments and clarifications/further advice required. Yes I will be investigating postal services in Europe but only as an aside from the more specifica part of trip which is to attend the WORLD POSTAL EXPO. Not quite the Olympics but does bring togther most of the worlds major postal technology manafacturers and nearly all the worlds national postal administrations. |

Nellie, .......just by the way Nellie I booked one of your first reccommendations, the Kaiserhoff smack in the middle of the city and next to the train station. US65 a night which, as you said, is about the best price readily available. It was also rated "best value" by the Frankfurt hotels site that listed most of the hotels in Frankfurt. ( a site you attached to your response). Did you notice by the way that although many hotels are $65 -75 in october up to the 7th that they go up to $300- 350 from the 7th ,apparently due to the Oktoberfest, I speculate at least. fortunately I am staying the 5th and the 6th and there apears no price variations in my next stop Cologne on the 7th through to the 11th. Thanks again, John From Melbourne |

Hi John- I'm glad the Kaiserhoff worked out. That looked like a good choice to me, too. But, good grief, no I did not catch the fine print about the Octoberfest price rise... sorry. Certainly, if I had, I'd have pointed it out to you. Anyway, enjoy your trip and your conference. I'd say send a post card, but that's hard to do when I dare not post my address... sigh. Oh well, come back and let me know how it all went. Bon voyage. Nellie |

Nellie, a long time back but you did suggest I send you a postcard which this will have to equate to. I actually took up both of your recommendations that looked best staying a few nights in both and for what it is worth can thorougly reccommend the small bed & breakfast that I stayed in at Cologne Germany; your reccommendation. The landlady who owns and runs the show looked after me particularly well even mothering me when I took sick for a few days. This of course is all part of the service in a tiny B & B of only a few rooms entirely different from what you could expect in a five star first rate hotel establishment. Looks like I may need to go to North Carolina soon to visit brother-in-law so may call upoin your reccommendations there also if we travel around a little while there. Johnfrommelboune Thanks again John From Melbourne |

Welcome back, John. Thanks for the "post card." I'm glad the b&b was good, although I'm sorry you were ill. I'll be happy to give you some recommendations in North Carolina... It's a great state, very diverse. Just put my name in the subject line when you're ready to travel. Thanks again for taking the time to visit. Nellie |

Nellie, Happy to seek you out again when touring NC but is it ethical, fair etc to put your name in subject line indicating that I exclusively want you to answer question. Does GA condone thi? John |

It's legit, John. :) It's ok with Google to request a specific researcher, and it makes it easier for other researchers if that is done in the subject line. Thanks for checking. Nellie |
