Question ID: 64736
How do I locate a list of manufacturers of flavorings and/or extracts
in the Unites States and New York. I have been trying to locate Blue
Cheese flavoring. I see it listed on salad dressings and on other
food items. If the manufacturers list of companies are not available,
perhaps the list of first level distributors because all the
distributors I have called do not no where to locate anything other
than what they sell.

Greetings! I believe I have located a most comprehensive list for
your perusal. In my search, I found NAFFS:

"WHAT IS NAFFS?
The National Association of Flavors and Food-Ingredient Systems
(NAFFS) is a broad-based trade association of manufacturers,
processors and suppliers of fruits, flavors, syrups, stabilizers,
emulsifiers, colors, sweeteners, cocoa and related food ingredients.
Its associate membership is open to all companies that provide
products and services to the food industry."

In the left column of the NAFFS main page, under the title
"Information," is a link to "Our Members". I followed that link and
found a plethora of flavoring makers. Some other types of businesses
are also listed there, such as food container makers, but the majority
is both natural and artificial food flavoring manufacturers and
suppliers.

I hope you are able to find your bleu cheese extract from among those
listed. Good luck in your quest!

Thank so much for this SIC Code list. I have called a fair number of
the companies listed and asked for blue cheese flavoring with no luck
at all. Other than this list, is there any way you can think of to
try to locate blue cheese flavoring? I have seen it listed on labels
so I know it must be available somewhere. Thanx

Greetings again. Even though your question only asked for
manufacturers, I did do extra searches to find the flavoring for you
when I originally answered the question. But I found nothing then.

However, I didn't think to try the word "powder". I'm not certain
that bleu cheese powder will work for your needs but I located some at
an online Amish store. I searched the words flavor, flavoring,
extract and powder combined with bleu cheese, roquefort and stilton in
numerous searches but I only found the bleu (and blue) cheese powder.

The correct spelling of "bleu" returned only one place, the Amish
store, but by spelling it "blue" I found a list of places the powder
is offered. The last *link below will take you to the list. Have you
considered contacting the company that makes the product where you saw
the flavoring listed, to ask them where they purchase it?

Good luck in your quest and I hope you are abe to locate the product
you desire.
