Question ID: 64900
I'm looking for the title and artist of a rather obscure song from the
80's.

I don't have much to go on except hearing this song
as part of an 80's Retro Show on the radio this summer. I don't
remember any
lyrics--not even the jist of the song. In fact the only thing I
remember was a part of the chorus/melody.

- my guess is mid/late 80s
- pop/dance style
- female singer, African-American likely (but i could be wrong.. heck
it
might just be a male with a female-sounding voice)
- a synthesized "ooh-ooh-ooh, ahh, ahh....ooh"/bird-chirp type sound
which repeated a melody that I have created in the WAV at the URL
below

http://www.pinoyware.com/whistle.wav
(might have to turn up your speakers to hear the clip)

I know it's not much to go on, but I've done everything else short of
going to the radio station's office to find the song myself.

I've posted a better soundclip that I threw together using a MIDI
piano and XP's Sound Recorder.

http://www.pinoyware.com/namethis.wav

I purposefully chose the "dooh-dooh" instrument as it's the closest
thing I could find out of the 128 MIDI instruments available. A
closer approximation would be somehow fusing that "dooh-dooh" effect
with a seal's "arf arf" and making it high-pitched. Unfortunately any
attempts by me to approximate that voice have been rather futile
(though hilarious).

Additonally, I want to say that the melody I've sequenced below is
common to at least the first verse but I can't say if it really is or
if it's part of a different song entirely, so please keep that in
mind.

Thanks for your time folks :-)

If I knew any more of this song I would, but unfortunately this is all
I have to go off of. I keep checking the radio hoping I'd chance upon
the song again, but I think it's one of those once-in-a-blue-moon
events :/

I have to go by your description without a sound card but the oooo's
and aaahhh's and the bird chirping noises sound like Minnie Riperton's
(1975) "Loving You," which Massivo Feat Tracy updated as a dance track
in 1990 but which I haven't heard. Here are the lyrics to the
original if you can recognize.

voila:

Good guess, but I would have figured out the song long ago if it were
really just a remix of that classic :)

Sorry, kiddo, I'm having to Braille songs these days. Soon I will get
my CD-ROM replaced ... then look out! ;-)

Secretly knowing I was way off but loving to make a public spectacle

I believe I have the ability to seriously answer your question.

Song Title: That's What Love Can Do
Artist (Band): Boy Krazy
Album: BoyKrazy
(Song also sold as a single.)

For a Real Player Media sample of the song, please visit:
http://www.artistdirect.com/store/artist/album/0,,56073-407025,00.html

For the complete lyrics of "That's What Love Can Do" please visit:
http://www.lyricsdownload.com/download/b/boy-krazy/Lyrics%20-%200.htm

This particular song is by a four piece girl band in the early 1990's.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find a clip with the precise
"ooh-ooh-ooh, ahh, ahh....ooh", though I know there is such a sound in
this song.

Should you be interested in purchasing the CD, it is still available
at local music stores though you may need to ask, or it can be found
at on-line stores and auction web sites. Search for "boy krazy" or
"boykrazy" and even "that's what love can do". The song can be
purchased as a single or part of their album "Boykrazy".

Please let me know if this is indeed the song you describe.
