I have a 1984 functional Apple II portable computer with one of the two 5.25" TEAC floppy drives that is not working. It needs cleaning - I think. Can someone help me locate a vendor who still sells 5.25" floppy disk cleaner in Malaysia? Alternatively, you can help locate someone who is able to service this vintage machine - in Malaysia. |

You can order a 5 1/4" floppy disk drive cleaning kit from PC Extras (http://www.pc-extras.com/prods/cl54ck.html) for US$ 3.99 plus US$ 5.83 for shipping. This vendor will ship to Malaysia (http://www.pc-extras.com/internat.html), they accept payment by VISA, Mastercard and PayPal. Alternatively, you can use the method suggested at http://www.computerhope.com/cleaning.htm#5 : "The second method of cleaning the floppy drive is recommended for experienced computer users. Using a swab with a liquid such as pure alcohol, free-on, or trichoroethane and physically opening the floppy drive unit and swap the read/write heads manually with a lint-free foam swab soaked in one of the above cleaning solutions. If you decide on this method you must be extremely careful when cleaning the heads to ensure that you do not lock them out of alignment causing the floppy drive not to work at all. To help prevent the heads from becoming out of alignment use a dabbing motion lightly putting the swab on the head and removing it, do not perform a side to side motion with the swab." | |

Anytime my friend, but you'll have to come to Malaysia! This beauty is a portable version with a 4" CRT screen. I'm trying to auction off this baby in ebay after I get the disk drives fixed, so you'll have to get here fast :) |
