The easiest and fastest way to drive more visitors to your website
would be through pay-per-click search engine advertising. It's a very
simple concept. When you search for "toys", the person paying the
most money to be ranked at the top is ranked at the top. It's an
auction, same as your website.

The problem is, it's expensive. Especially on a dating website like
yours. However, it's still the best solution in my mind.

Here are few websites that will guide you in the basic of search
engine optimization:

PayPerClickSearchEngines.com
http://www.payperclicksearchengines.com

PayPerClickGuide.com
http://www.payperclickguide.com

The main pay-per-click engines:

Overture
http://www.overture.com

FindWhat
http://www.findwhat.com

And Google's very own:
http://adwords.google.com/select/

In the UK and Europe - eSpotting.com
http://www.espotting.com

I wouldn't use any engine but those those four. The first three serve
worldwide, but eSpotting focuses on Europe.

Other solutions you might want to look at:

 - Creating your own affiliate program (since you're giving away the
majority of your money, you definitely can't afford this)
 - Hiring a search engine optimization professional (expensive, time
consuming and takes a long time to see real results)
 - Exchanging links with other websites (recommended, but not really
very effective)
 - Joining a banner exchange
 - Advertise in offline materals such as magazines and newspapers
 - Get listed in directories such as Yahoo.com and Looksmart.com
 - Word of mouth, encourage your visitors to tell about their
experiences

If you want more information on the above solutions I listed, I
recommend searching for them on Google or asking another question.

I wrote most of this answer from personal experience, but I did search
Google for "pay per click":

I hope this helps you!

Just looking at your site for fun, that's a very interesting concept.

I can't really help you with traffic, except to say that you should
probably find a way to target your audience - your audience in this
case appears to be people from the UK, London for the most part. You'd
obviously like to expand this, but the most obvious way to expand it
would be to target UK in general, to build up a critical mass of
people from that area.

Since it seems you're a small developer I have one piece of advice:
Develop a niche.

The only other way I can think of to expand your audience greatly
would be to target the online news magazines - this would help you
build up a critical mass. However, you would do best to build up
traffic to the site BEFORE this, both to protect against a surge in
users and also to be able to show them a site that they can actually
recommend to other people.

Significant word of mouth, of course, can help. But again, this
requires critical mass in the area you need word of mouth in.

Or if you'd like to expand into other areas, you'll have to find a way
to build up a critical mass in each of these areas. Without this
critical mass people will go to the site and never come back, because
they won't find people near them to look at/bid on. Naturally, the
geographic area will expand with time, as more diverse people login.

One thing, just a UI thing though - If this site does become bigger,
you have a problem. The sites interface is definitely not user
friendly beyond the front page. Once you move into hundreds of
listings, it will become almost impossible to find someone by
geographic area, or whatever other criteria, etc. (you probably should
add criteria, come to think of it, such as age, etc.)

With that in mind, I would work on a better way to search/browse
through the listings.
