Hi jomurph-ga,
Setting up and maintaining a saltwater aquarium is an ambitious
project, but one thats well-worth the work in terms of the beauty it
can add to any room.
Ive gone through 20 or so websites that focus on saltwater aquariums
and have pulled out a collection of good sites that offer clear
step-by-step instructions for first-time saltwater aquarium hobbyists.
Some are more detailed than others so Ive included a brief
description of each before the link.
BEGINNERS CORNER SALTWATER AQUARIUMS - ABOUT.COM
This section of About.com probably provides the most comprehensive
information available for beginners on all aspects of setting up and
maintaining a saltwater aquarium that I have found online. I would
highly recommend reading all of the links provided in this section:

Dont be fooled by the title of this article. Each of these 10 easy
steps is broken into very detailed instructions on how to carry them
out and how to know when your aquarium is ready to be taken to the
next step. This is the most detailed list I found.

need, then offers a very brief 10-step setup guide, giving the order
in which each task should be carried out.

THE AQUARIA STORE
This site offers a detailed step-by step for setting up your
saltwater aquarium. It includes lots of useful reminders and tips such
as how many electrical outlets youll need nearby and how to situate
your tank in relation to windows. The site itself is no longer
online, but has been cached by Google so can be found in its older
form here:

THE AQUARIA NEWSGROUP
This site offers advice to novice saltwater aquarium owners. This
particular section answers some of the FAQs regarding setting up the
tank. Although not in list form, the section called, Setting up the
System describes the steps you need to take to do that.

These 9 steps seem to focus more on the details of chemically
preparing the water than on other parts of the process like choosing a
location or how to wash the substrate.

ONE MORE RESOURCE ---
This book may prove useful as well:

up your aquarium and keep it alive. Good luck in your project. If
anything Ive said isnt clear, feel free to ask for clarification.
