San Diego County mails copies of death certificates, regardless of how
they are ordered - mail, phone, fax or internet. Do you want the
details of how to order online?

quetion clarification: I want to obtain a copy of Herman J. Boone's
death...I only know he died 2001 and probably in a car crash in San
Diego. I believe he was a san diego resident at time of death.

I cold pick it up at san diego clerk or wherever ...are they mailed
out only/

How do I determine that I get the correct Herman J. Boone without his
address or social security/ He was not in the ss data base.

Hello Cork,

You can order a copy of Mr. Boone's death certificate online through
the San Diego County Recorder's office. You need to submit his full
name, date of death, city and county of death, and the reason you are
requesting the certificate. The cost is $11, payable by credit card
online:

GREGORY J. SMITH/ SAN DIEGO COUNTY RECORDER
http://www.vitalchek.com/provider_overview.asp?provider_id=9743

To obtain copies of a will and/or probate documents, you need to
contact the San Diego Superior Court Department of Probate Services:

San Diego Superior Court
1409 4th Ave.
San Diego, CA 92101
619-236-3781

You'll need to send $5, a self addressed, stamped envelope, the
decedent's full name, and a note indicating that you would like copies
of the will and/or probate documents.

Though a commenter below is concerned that the number given may not be
accurate, I can assure you that it is indeed the correct phone number.
I called personally this afternoon and spoke with Jill in Probate
Services in the course of assisting another customer today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Best regards,

--Missy

This has where to obtain it, and how:
http://63.200.213.30/cnty/cntydepts/general/assessor/vitals.html

But the actual date of death is required, which I am unable to find.

That info is valuable to me regarding the death certificate. \

Is it difficult to find where a persons probate records are filed and
to obtain copies of the value of the estate and the various claims
against it?

Although their fees page lists a number of fees applicable to
searching their records...
http://www.sandiego.courts.ca.gov/superior/online/feesched.html

...there is no mention on the official San Diego Courts website on how
to go about this. They have a CD-ROM of archived cases, but it only
goes as far as 1999.

You might want to contact the Public Administrator and ask if they
were involved:

County Operations Center - Annex

According to the San Diego newspaper, Mr. Herman Boone died
approximately October 9, 2000 in a hit-and-run accident. Hope this
helps you in your quest for the death certificate and/or probate file
search.

SINCERELY,
