Question ID: 65528
Where can I find replacement razor blades for my Barber King
haircutter, sold several years ago for both humans and grooming dogs.
The blades appear to be stainless steel, 2" long and 7/8" wide with a
1 3/8" x 3/8" slot in the middle.
My last blade said "Made in Europe". The Haircutter itself says
"Assembled in Mexico". I bought it by mail order from an ad in a
Sunday newspaper flyer or perhaps Prade included with the paper. Would
really appreciate some help!

Thanks,

Steve

Hello,
     Does it look anything like
this?http://pages.tias.com/4270/PictPage/1253008.html
Is it more of a straight razor with a garud, or a clipper? Is it
electric? How long ago did you buy it? What's the company you bought
it from? Tell me all the details you can, as it may help me in my
search.

Henna,

That is exactly it, on the website you found!

My description of the blades needs a correction on the size of the
slot - it is 1 3/16" x 3/16", however this device only has one blade
type, I'm pretty sure. It is double sided.

Let's hope they sell blades separately, I already have two of the
devices.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Thanks,

Steve

Hi again. I'm glad I found the picture of it. After inquiring to the
antique dealer that the picture was taken by, she told me the company
is no longer in business, and that it is pretty outdated. She has no
idea where to find blades. So, then I thought, if the blades do not
exist anymore, what could we find you that's a bit more modern, to
replace it. I did however, after examining the equipment more
carefully, realize exactly what it was. It's a dual sided straight
razor, with a guard on it. Now, my question to you is, does the guard
adjust to differnt sizes? Is that what the dial is for. I can find you
a dual edged or even single edged straight razor with the guard
easily, for relativly very little expense. I work in supply with this
kind of equipment everyday. ( we're talking no more than 40 USD in
fact) finding one with a adjustable guard however, may be a bit
harder. So, now that we know it's an antique, would you like me to go
about finding you a acceptable replacement?

The adjustment wheel moves the blade sideways toward the edges to
regulate how close the blade comes to the scalp. This enables you to
control the amount of hair, the length really, at different places on
your head, thus "tapered razor cut" hair.

I have one that isn't adjustable and it isn't very useful - or
requires more skill than I have.

Please keep trying, I sure appreciate it.

Thanks,

Steve

Okies, I have a call into somewhere that may be able to manufacture
replacement blades since they are no longer made. I'll find out when I
can when I get a call back, and let you know.

Hi,
More bad news i'm afraid. It would costapprox a $1000 dollars to
manufacture 20-30 blades in the size you want. The rep at the
manufacturer I talked to, said the size of blade I was looking for is
outdated, and is not really manufactured anymore.
So, we're back to square 1.
Where would you like to go from here? Give up your search, or find a
new razor? Let me know, if you want a new razor, what your
requirements would be for it, and i'll see what I could do to find you
a new one. If you'd like to give up, well, that's understandable too.

Also, to my fellow researchers, I'm having not a lot of luck here,
feel free to jump if if you feel you could have a better answer than
I.

I am committed to using a device like the Barber King, but not enough
to pay $1000 for 30 blades.

If you or your associates can find a similar product with adjustable
cutting depth capability I will be very grateful.

Thanks for all your effort thus far - I'm very impressed!

Ok, so, before I jump into this...I need to know a few more facts now.
1. How much are you willing to pay?
2. Are you open to ordering it online, or do you want it locally, in
your area, and, if so, what is your area?
3. You want teheadjustable depth, any other features the Barber King
has that would be non negoitable in another razor?
4. Does it need to be dual sided?

Any information would be entirely helpful. so that we do not both
waste our time hunting for something that will not be right.

Ok, I've been hunting, and it seems a razor like that is just not made
adjustable anymore, everyone has went to clippers and trimmers, which
are electric, and have comb attachments you use to adjust the legenth
you want to leave the hair while cutting. The closest thing I have
found to the barber king is this...
http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm?ProductID=1410&do=detail
Would you consider trying a good electric clipper or trimmer, with the
comb attachemnts? There are many good ones out there, and a lot of
them come with instructonal videos. Maybe combining a clipper or
trimmer with a single sided non adjustable straight razor would work?
I feel like I'm not looking in the right places, but I've searched for
over 6 hours now, to no avail. I hope you can find a suitable
alternative, or another researcher can help you out. Let me know if
the clipper/trimmer idea is of interest, if it is, let me know, and
I'll compile a list of good ones, and we can see if any of these match
what you need, and if they do, then I'll post an answer. If a clipper
trimmer is not of interest to you, however, and the razor I mentioned
about is not either, I think I may have to bow out of this question
and let someone else tackle it.

Nenna,

I already have a nice Wahl set like you desribed - I just prefer the
razor cut.
Thanks for everything that you tried. Maybe someone will buy the
tooling and go back into business in a few years. Maybe there is a
supply of blades out there you or someone will discover........

Thanks again,

Steve
