This is more like a tech support question, but tech support is not
able to answer. I use Quickbooks Pro 2002 and Outlook 9.0.0.3821.
Quickbooks offers a synchronization feature that allows it to take all
the customer info (name, address, phone, etc) directly from Outlook,
instead of re-typing into Quickbooks. The feature is supposed to work
in under 15 minutes, but on my computer (and on my previouse hardware
using same programs) it takes about 7 hours. I am using windows xp on
a sony Pentium 4 at 2.2 Gig. Both programs are on the same disk
platter. I have about 7,000 contacts in Outlook and about 300 in
Quickbooks. I am synchronizing only one way, from Outlook to
Quickbooks and Outlook wins any synch questions. I have rebooted
numerous times, and used windows task manager to turn off other
programs that are running. The synchronization takes 7 hours whether
there is a lot of information to be synched, or if I re-start the
synch immeadiately after it has just completed synching when there is
no new data. My question is how can I speed up my synchronization
speed from 7 hours to under 1 hour?

With 7,000 contacts, I'd say you'll probably have to live with the 7
hours--let that sucker run before you go to sleep at night.

But,I know Outlook has a Compact and Repair feature for Inbox, maybe
it does for Contacts, I'm not sure but it's worth checking out.

Hi Swami,

The omniscientbeing may be right. I think when the Intuit folks talked
about 7 minutes, they were talking about the average list with about
10% of your names.

However, you might try exporting Outlook to Excel and then
transferring it?
QB can read Excel.

But I'll give you credit. You're certainly getting into the spirit of
using QB as a full-service program.

Have fun!
