How do I configure RASauto in Windows 2000?

Clarification of Question by oregonian27-ga on 16 Sep 2002 09:19 PDT
I should probably be more clear. My objective is to have Windows 2000
automatically create a VPN connection when I access a resource that
would be behind the VPN. I was looking through services and saw the
service: Remote Access Auto Connection with the description: Creates a
connection to a remote network whenever a program references a remote
DNS or NetBIOS name or address. It was not started so I started it
thinking that when I attempted to access a file or resource behind the
VPN it would initiate the connection. However, it did not. It seems
like it would somehow need to be configured to know which connection
to use and under what circumstance but I can't seem to google any
details about where/how to configure it.

Hi oregonian27

So we don't cover material which has
been asked before, a few VPN questions
have already come through here...

If they don't have the particular bit of
info you need... please let us know so we
can start searching.

You said you have already done searches
regarding RASauto? Can you tell us where you
have been so we don't duplicate results
in our answer for you?

thanks

I don't see anything in those links that answer my question. I
searched around but I really didn't find anything close. All I have
what I put in that last clarification. It looks like ths RASAuto
service should be able to dynamically create a VPN connection when I
access a resource.

If I understand your request correctly, I think you need to enable and
configure routing and remote access.

You can do this by going to start - administrative tools - routing and
remote access

Then right click on the server and click on enable

You should then be able to configure your server to be a VPN server
